Police
Man Pleads Guilty to 2nd Degree Murder
Harley Austin Loon, one of two brothers charged with the murder of 37-year-old Rust James Russow, pled guilty in court on Tuesday.
The brothers, Harley and Travis, were charged with 1st degree murder after Russow’s body was found on November 17, 2022 in an apartment on Pearl Street.
Police say Russow was killed three days prior.
Travis is set to stand trial for 1st degree murder beginning on June 2.
Civic
2 Hour Free Parking
Thunder Bay City Administration is proposing to offer two hours of free parking so they can learn more about parking trends in the city.
There have been a lot of changes to parking rules since the pandemic, most of it which has been met with community resistance.
Based on the feedback from the community, the city wants to analyze usage and present an update on what direction parking rules and fees should go, by January of 2026.
Usage of city meters is low, around 10%, so the goal is to find out how to increase usage, and also increase community satisfaction.
To that I say, good luck!
Forest Fires
Evacuations Starting

Fire Kenora 20, burning near Ingolf, which is about 580km west of Thunder Bay has prompted an evacuation notice.
Ontario Forest First is strongly encouraging residents and cottagers near the Manitoba border to evacuate.
The fire was, as of Tuesday afternoon, 8,000 hectares in size and not under control.
Hopefully the rain scheduled for later this week can help bring it back under control.
