Porter Flies to Pearson
Finally Thunder Bay has another option to fly to Pearson Airport in Toronto (which in turn will hopefully lower the prices the other price gouger major carrier charges…).
The inaugural Porter flight for their new route was on Tuesday of this week.
To start, Porter will be flying from Thunder Bay to Pearson on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays, with departure time for all three days currently being 10:10am.
This new route flies an Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.
Seat configurations are 2×2 and can hold 132 passengers in three different classes of seats.
Porter is now the largest volume carrier serving Thunder Bay when you combine both Pearson and Billy Bishop capacities, and they have been in Thunder Bay since 2009.
More options, on fancy new airplanes, with service that has always been good… we’ll happily welcome that!
North Bright
Get Your Ducts Cleaned!

We all know to change our furnace filters at least twice a year (we do all know that.. right…?)
But what we probably don’t ever think to do is have our ducts cleaned! Over time, stuff, quite often gross stuff, collects in our heating/cooling ducts.
If you have kids, or pets, you can imagine what might fall into the vents that blow air into your home. Air that’s passing over gross moulded old food, or pet dander and fur etc.
You get the point. And it’s gross.
Northbright’s team of licensed cleaners can get all that nasty stuff out of your ductwork that’s contributing to bad air quality, sneezing, running noses, and allergies.
And they leave your house smelling so damn good afterwards.

Daily Poll
White, brown or green Christmas?
Wednesday poll was decisive. 72% of you prefer to shop in-person, locally!
Let’s get off the Christmas theme for just one day here. I’m curious about this Porter announcement.
Are you excited Porter is flying to Pearson and giving us another option? |

Urban Abbey Has Spare Beds
Urban Abbey has shelter beds available in both it’s south end and north end locations.
Its south end location is at the corner of Simpson St and Victoria Ave. It has 20 total beds available and is a mixed-gender facility.
The north end location is on Red River Rd and Algoma St, and it also has 20 beds available, but is for female’s only.
The Ubran Abbey is part of a coalition of shelters including The Salvation Army, Grace Place, Shelter House, Elizabeth Fry, and the hospital.
While both locations have capacity, it is expected to start filling as the cold settles in.
If you encounter people looking for help, keep them in mind. Also strongly suggest you try their coffee shop, The Habit, which is part of the north-end Urban Abbey location.
Let’s support great people like this that are supporting those in need in our community in any way we can.
Art
Public Art Installation Input
Give the city credit, they aren’t afraid to take a beating via asking the public their opinion.
A call has been put out to gather input on public art for two locations for next year.
The first spot is at the corner of Court St and Red River Rd, and the second is the walkway from Red River Rd to the Gateway Casino parking lot on Park St.
There is a public information session happening today at Goods and Co. between 10am and 2pm.
There are four pieces of art selected as finalists, but let’s be very clear: this is NOT a voting situation.
The city simply wants feedback on what we think, and they will take it into account.
All I know is this much: no matter what they pick, a large portion of the audience will be pis*ed (I personally like the animal people on Algoma, but I know a whole bunch of you did not…)

Police
Dryden Drug Bust
A 31 year-old Dryden man was taken into custody on charges of drug trafficking.
The OPP conducted the raid just after 9am on Tuesday and seized cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, hydromorphone, and oxycodone (jeez that’s a shopping list worth of stuff…).
Also added to the charges was a weapons related offense and a failure to comply with a release order.
Thanks OPP!
Outdoors
God Bless the Snow
Look, I get that we all complain about the snow. It’s cold. It’s heavy. It makes a right old mess of everything.
But…
This city needs it. Every business needs it. So…
With that being said, the cross-country skiing gang are thrilled with what has happened so far this December.
Kamview has half of their classic and skate-style trails already open, and anticipate having the rest opened by the end of the week.
Lappe already has about 90% of their full trail system open for skiers.
Last year Kamview couldn’t open until the end if December, and even then it was slim pickings.
Cross-country facilities can’t easily make snow like the downhill guys can, which have open spaces and gravity to help move the snow to where it needs to go.
And speaking of Nordic, both Baldy and Loch are open.
So let’s get out there and support our skiing brethren and help them make up for lousy years last year!

Christmas Wish Surpasses Goal
Dilico’s Christmas Wish Campaign is going to supply over 800 kids with smiles on Christmas morning.
The campaign, which encourages individuals and businesses to purchase a bag and fill it with toys, has now provided more than 9,000 wish bags since it’s inception.
The bags are distributed to children across the city, the district and 13 First Nation communities.
The goal was 800, and they surpassed that, bringing tears of joy to the eyes of some Dilico employees.
Thank you Thunder Bay for your generosity!
